Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Extremal Problems in Combinatorial Geometry" workshop from February 4th to February 9th, 2018.
The workshop on Extremal problems in combinatorial geometry will focus on the algebraic and combinatorial properties of points, lines, and other simple geometric objects in Euclidean space. The goal is to gather experts and promising young researchers in combinatorial geometry and related areas, to discuss the recent developments of algebraic and combinatorial methods used in the field. Over the past 6 years in particular, several ground-breaking results have been discovered, answering some of the oldest problems in the field. This workshop is a timely event to capitalize on this momentum.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
