Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Women in computational methods for PDEs" workshop in Banff from March 1 - 6, 2026.

Computational methods for partial differential equations (PDEs) are essential tools for modeling physical phenomena. These tools have applications from engineering to natural disaster modeling. From its inception, women have been active researchers in this field developing state-of-the-art techniques that push the limits of what can be simulated on a computer. This workshop provides an opportunity for female researchers in the field of computational methods for PDEs to not only share their work but also build a network, new collaborations, and skills that will increase the impact of the resulting research. The diverse career levels and employment backgrounds of the participants provide a unique mentoring environment for early career participants.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and Alberta Technology and Innovation.
