Description
The Institute of Mathematics at the University of Granada will host the "Geometry, Analysis, and Physics in Lorentzian Signature" workshop at the University of Granada (IMAG) in Spain, from May 4 to May 9, 2025.
The theory of General Relativity, developed by A. Einstein in the early 20th century, is one of the most successful and beautiful scientific theories of nature of all time. This theory explains gravity as the curvature of the universe caused by matter and energy. The spacetime is a mathematical model that merges the three spatial dimensions and the one temporal dimension into a single four-dimensional continuum. This unified treatment of the four coordinates involves a sophisticated geometry whose study has encouraged rich mathematical developments in the last decades.
The scientific meeting "Geometry, Analysis, and Physics in Lorentzian Signature" to be held in IMAG in the spring of 2025, will bring together specialists from different areas of Mathematics and Physics, who do not normally interact with people outside their group, in order to exchange the latest developments and ideas potentially applicable to improving our understanding on this subject.
The Institute of Mathematics at the University of Granada(IMAG) in Granada, Spain, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada’s Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Alberta Technology and Innovation.
