Description
The Chennai Mathematical Institute will host the "Frontiers of Quantum information and Computation" workshop in Chennai, India from December 8 to December 13, 2024.
Quantum computers are computational devices based on the principles of quantum mechanics, while the computers so widely in use today operate as per the laws of classical physics. Quantum devices have been shown to outperform classical ones for a host of information processing tasks, for example in computing, communication, and cryptography. Today, quantum information processing (QIP) is a thriving interdisciplinary field that has led to breakthroughs in almost every field from which it draws, including in mathematics, computer science, information theory, and physics. This workshop will review cutting-edge edge research being conducted in QIP, chart out promising new directions, and bring together researchers — especially those based in India and Asia — to push the frontiers of the field further.
The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) in Chennai, India, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, are collaborative Canada-US-Mexico ventures that provide an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station in Banff is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Alberta's Advanced Education
