We show that representations of the Thompson monoid F+ yield a large class of unilateral stationary noncommutative Markov processes. As a partial converse, unilateral stationary Markov processes in tensor dilation form (and in particular, in the commutative setting) are shown to yield representations of F+. This is joint work with Claus Koestler and Stephen J. Wills

Given a Hilbert space $H$ and $n\in\mathbb{N}$ , $M_n(B(H))$ is a C*∗-algebra with order, norm and algebraic structure at each matrix level $M_n(B(H))$ . An operator system is a self-adjoint unital subspace with matrix ordering induced at each $M_n(V )$. In 1969, Arveson introduced the C*-envelope of an operator system as a universal quotient amongst all C*-algebras it generates. The relationship between an operator system and its C*-envelope is a mysterious one. After giving a brief introduction to the basics of operator systems and their tensor products, we discuss some recent developments involving characterization of structural properties, e.g. nuclearity and exactness, of operator systems via canonically associated C*-envelopes.
