Description
The Banff International Research Station will host the "Arithmetic Aspects of Algebraic Groups" workshop from June 12 to June 17, 2022.
The investigation of arithmetic groups has been an active and important area of mathematical research ever since it arose in the work of Gauss, Klein, Poincare, and other famous mathematicians of the 18th and 19th centuries. New points of view have recently led to progress on classical problems, opened new directions of inquiry, and revealed unexpected connections with other areas of mathematics. The workshop brings together experts in the area, researchers in related fields, and young mathematicians who wish to learn about the most recent advances and the most promising directions for the future of the field.
The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
