Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Triangulated Categories and Applications" workshop from June 19th to June 24th, 2016.

Triangulated categories were conceived during the early 60's in topology and in algebraic geometry and are now considered fundamental tools of both subjects.

Remarkably, in the course of the last half century they have enjoyed a broad horizontal growth, coming to influence many diverse areas of mathematics and even mathematical physics.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together mathematicians of diverse backgrounds, all united by their use of triangulated categories, in order to exchange experience, techniques, open problems and the latest developments from the many domains in which triangulated categories are thriving. We shall also introduce a new generation of graduate students and young postdocs to the subject.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT)..
