Description

The Banff International Research Station will host the "Dialgebras, Leibniz Algebras, and Quasi-Jordan Algebras" workshop from April 29th to May 6th, 2012.

The focus of this workshop is on the structure and representation theory of new
algebraic structures which originally arose in geometry and physics. These
structures provide a precise mathematical way to describe various types of
symmetry that arise throughout pure and applied mathematics. The participants
in this workshop are especially interested in extending classical results on
associative and nonassociative structures to these new types of algebra. One of
the most important tools used in this research is modern computer algebra, and
in particular algorithms for linear algebra on large matrices.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
