Description

The "Recent trends in geometric and nonlinear analysis" workshop will be hosted at The Banff International Research Station.

The mathematician of the nineteenth century was a multishape being: he was tackling analysis, algebra, geometry, and sometimes philosophy and other humanities. Nowadays, mathematical research has become so sharp that it is awfully difficult (and hopeless...) to embrace more that one speciality. This is a pity: science often makes leaps forward by interactions between unexpected interlocutors. For this meeting, we want to gather experts in geometry and analysis on some selected topics, like the formation of black holes or other singularities in the nature, like spots on leopards and lines on zebras. We expect fruitful interactions, and new techniques to be exchanged between scientists!

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada's Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico's Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologí255a (CONACYT).
