AWM-BIRS Partnership
BIRS is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM). A long-time host of the hugely successful Women in X programs, BIRS will expand its collaboration with AWM in the following ways:
AWM and BIRS together will sponsor small group follow-ons to the Women in X conferences proposed by women who have multiple intersectional identities. These include, but need not be limited to, women from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities; women with visible or invisible disabilities; and women who are neuro-diverse, gender-diverse, or gender fluid. AWM will provide travel funding for these groups, and BIRS will provide research space, food, lodging and other on-site amenities through its Focused Research Groups and Research in Teams programs. For more details on this funding, see AWM’s web page AWM-BIRS Partnership.
In addition, BIRS will offer opportunities for women and early-career mathematicians in all its workshops by showcasing AWM's programs in support of research, including AWM Travel Grants; AWM's new research journal La Matematica; and AWM workshops and conferences, such as the AWM Research Symposium.
AWM president, Kathryn Leonard, expressed her delight at this new partnership, noting that "BIRS has long supported AWM, including providing the site for the first Women in X research collaboration conference. We are thrilled to
expand and formalize that partnership.”
